Built mine as primarily a gaming system but I do everything on it.
CoolerMaster CMStacker 830 Full Tower Case
AeroCool Xtreme Turbine 120mm fans x6
Zalman 9700-LED heatsink/fan (w/artic silver 5)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz 4mb L2 cache 1066fsb
Foxconn N68S7AA nForce 680i SLI motherboard
EVGA Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb vid card x2 (in SLI mode)
Gateway 22" HD widescreen LCD monitor 16:10 (use it for tv too)
Hiper Power 730W power supply
2048mb Corsair Dominator 800mhz RAM
Maxtor HDD 300gb
SoundBlaster Xtreme Gamer X-FI soundcard 7.1
Phillips 20x DVD+RW drive
My only regret on this system is that I did not go with SATA connections and went with straight IDE. Infact both HDD and DVD are on the same cable. Upgrades for later I suppose.

Man, my machine fails pretty hard. 3-years old, limited funds, etc.
Dell Dimension 4600 Case (Hell yeah!)
NVidia GeForce 7800 GS (woot for no PCI-E slots)
Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.00 GHz (2 CPUs)
2GHz Nanya Technology 400MHz DDRAM (Corsair is expensive =\)
80GB Hard Drive + 320GB Seagate External
Sony 32" WXDA LCD Display Monitor
It sucks, but runs everything nice except Supreme Commander on max. And Supreme Commander on max settings rapes everyone. Don't need the l33t haxx0rs if you spend most of your time in notepad anyway :-P

Something everyone has an opinion on
An age old question, which is better Apple or windows, Jobs or Gates? There have been many pros and cons for both apple and windows. I'm simple here to say i choose windows! Playing games, being able to retrieve any deleted file, and can restart! You may of seen the apple and PC add devoted to simply pay out windows, well think if apple are so good why would they devote an add to destroy there competitor?
Here we go watch this to clarify everything!

HAHA, I love the way that Picture says "Microsoft, Stop making fun of us" when PC's have nothing to do with Microsoft, hasn't anyone every heard of Linux?
Well, I chose OS X (Mac) over Windows for a number of reasons.
1) It just works, Macs have NO viruses, NO spyware, NO Problems.
2) Installing an Application only involves dragging the disk into my applications folder
3) Uninstalling an Application only involves dragging it into the trash
4) Photoshop runs perfectly on OS X
5) My Mac takes less then 20 seconds to turn on from a cold boot
These are just a few of the reasons I love Mac but I have many many more.

You dont run everything in DOS, because DOS is a 8-bit Operating System capable of running 8MB of RAM with a 2GB Hard Drive. It dosnt even support any more then 16 colors (not 16 billion, just 16)
So you might use the Command Prompt/PowerShell/Terminal to open your applications but they're all running on a 32-bit Windows Based Kernel.
Your games dont "play in binary" Binary is raw machine code.
And as for that video, I can think of more games for OS X then I can for Windows.
http://www.apple.com/games/
Please dont think from this that i'm having a go at you but you DO use Windows/Linux not DOS, Your Games run in a programming language like C++ and not machine code and PCs arnt PCs unless they have GUIs so...

Personally, I run Windows. I run Windows because I have always ran Windows. Macs are great for video editing and graphical programs like Bryce 3D (or so I'm told, I don't know) but Windows work better for most other things and has more software available and much more support (or, once again, so I am told). But honestly why would I change to a Mac if most of my previous software won't work on it? What reason would I have to ignore everything I've ever bought for my PC?
Yes, Macs target commercials slinging mud at PCs. But has anyone stopped to consider why no one calls a Mac a PC? Is it not still a Personal Computer? Or are Macs so inherently different that they are not even computers? Obviously they have to be personal, you don't rent Macs. Tirade aside, Macs have to attack Windows as they are their primary competitor. If they didn't, how would they convince people to switch to a Mac?
Asphyxia8489
09-15-2007, 10:17 PM
It's called a Mac and not a PC because it's just a screen, no tower. It's also, More Stable (macs dont crash), It's Faster (the OS was designed for speed, not compatibility) and most macs run on select premium hardware. So overall you have a much better experiance
Lithiux
09-16-2007, 02:25 AM
Dude... I was kidding.
Ok here's my current one, and the second picture is what it used to be (House w/ flowers), I took that picture in Greece =D Had it for awhile but decided to switch it up, gotta change again sometime eventually.
Hugan
09-16-2007, 04:13 AM
So by select premium hardware, you're saying that it's mostly meant for people who can afford to buy expensive stuff because it's higher quality? Sounds like Macs are for elitists. Don't get me wrong, for a professional company it's a better choice, but for the private individual it seems less cost effective.
If I'm misunderstanding please correct me. I'm not trying to argue which is better, I'm saying that it depends on the purpose of the machine. I can't imagine ILM would ever use Windows because their Macs are specialized for their use. But at the same time I can't see a common Joe like me using it for all the different things I use mine for.
I use Microsoft, why? Because I can't gather the effort to switch, I've only ever had Windows... I don't dislike Macs or anything.. just... don't use em. Windows Vista sucks.. wish I was still runnin XP but I've already "customized" Vista to me, so now it'd be a pain int he ass to start my comp up on my 2nd hd which has XP as its OS.. then I'd have to redo all my shortcuts and customizing etc., partly cuz it's a dif't HD, and partly cuz it's a dif't OS.. And by that I mean my shortcuts go to drive C.. for example.. when I start my comp w/ XP the 2nd drive is then called C (can probably change that? Dunno never tried...) and my Vista HD is called F so all my shortcuts r fucked up.. then a dif't Firefox opens w/ old bookmarks.. cuz on the XP it's installed on that drive... on Vista it's installed on this drive, I've got so much crap on my 2 drives it's so sad.. and now my comp which is only a couple months old makes loud noises when I start it up and when it's running, not a good thing.. Stupid fans.. I hope.. Oh and I'm a total comp noob and my room looks like a fucking bomb went off in it... and I'm too scared to loose all my porn (haha.. I do have some other stuff... little bit anyway) even though I already have so many viruses from going to porn sites (haha... nope nothing to say here) etc... So.. ya.. life eh? Who needs it! Or should I say comps.. I don't know.. long story short, I voted Windows.. just cuz I've never used anything else.

My current background is "Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat. I chose it because it came with Vista and I am a bit of an art fan (though I did have to do an internet search to remember the name of the artwork). This artwork is commonly known by the current generation because it appeared in the film, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" when Cameron stares intently at one girl in the picture.
Otherwise I used to have D&D related pictures or half-naked girls.

By Premium I mean, yes it is a little more expensive. But lets take this into account for a second.
Say like you were really interested in playing EA's new Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. If you bought yourself a Ultra PC, like mine and a simple 20" iMac then the iMac would win hands down on the gaming. Even though the hardware on a iMac is much much slower, Mac OS X "just works" and can manage RAM perfectly. Ok, i'll stop with the nerding now.
Basicaly, because of OS X, Macs are faster and better then PCs. I cant think of a single application that I cant run on my Mac, hell, look at the screenshot below, If for example I was trying to get onto a website that didnt work with Safari, Firefox or Opera. I could always just load up windows in a virtual machine and run Internet Explorer as if it was a native OS X application. I can even run Windows games on a Mac if I so want.
In this screenshot I have Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft Office Word 2007 and Windows Solitaire open. I could run games like Half-Life 2 but that'd be a bad example.
So Basicaly, the best reason as to why Macs are better then PCs is.... *drum roll*
You can run every single OS X, Windows and Linux application without restarting into a different operating system.

How about both? I have an old iMac that is perfect for writing letters and keeping lists. It's also great for general online communications because there's almost no chance of getting hit by a virus while running a Mac. I use the Windows PC for some gaming and it's compatability with most systems running. If I had the money, I'd get one of the new Macs w/the converter program that lets you run Windows.

Legaly, you cannot run Mac OS X on a PC but you can actually do it, however it's very crippled, slow and unreliable. I wont assist in this as that'd void my Apple Developers Licence.

Windows? Hardly, The WinBlows kernel is pretty stable, the only reason you're likely to get a BlueScreen or other Kernel problem is if you use Anti-Viral software that edits the kernel like Norton or McAfee. Either that or a dodgy driver.

Well, as you know my Main PC is a Mac, so the EFI Firmware dosnt support overclocking.
as for my gaming rig, I just overclocked it now from 2.8GHz to 2.92GHz, increased the RAM speed from 800MHz (with a low CAS) to 920MHz (with a high CAS), upped the FSB and everything else relevant, booted back into Winblows, ran a benchmark and my system was running 4% slower and 25% hotter :P

macs are more complicated to build, expand, or repair, and the lack of open competition makes lass stuff available, but both machines now use all of the same internal parts. Macs have an image based interface and windows are still text and list based, but even that can be changed in your prefs. Macs just have a more stable OS at the moment.

Mac is a superior pron platform - lol.

There should've been neither/both option in that poll. I use both daily in one of the more computing-demanding uses - video and graphics - and both have their pros & cons, but the myth that Macs don't crash, well, not in my book. THe most stable machine I ever used was a Windows NT, and three times now I've had a Mac system utterly self-immolate with no chance of recovery.

Work with both, but only Mac at home. Would never own a PC. Half of our deadline problems at work are due to our PCs being completely unreliable, but our Mac work never gets behind (design, etc.)

Windows for me... I don't care about my specs, the one in my room is a decent E-Machine, the one in the gaming room is an Alienware.
Then we have a Mac somewhere in the dorm...
