Actually, I think that FOP was a mere pastiche of several other cartoons, though any likelyness to "Jetsons" would be merely incidental( like, both cartoons were "family sitcoms" and the likelinesses of any kind stop around that )... !

I used to draw PPG fanart, too( though those were G and PG stuff )...
Then, when I wanted to try another style, the next one was FOP, since those styles are a bit related( both use a flat perspective, edgy shapes, thick outlines... ); but I decided to go fartehr and try other cartoon styles, rather than try on anime/manga style.
Actually,
I saw cartoon style(s) being SO sadly underrated - at least here where I live - though one can charge as much feeling/emotions on that as it is usually done on anime/manga; it´s just a matter of work on that, I think.

I don't think any style is better then another by itself. Simple drawing can be even tricker then more complex drawing. Complex drawing may require more skill but simple drawing sometimes requires more imagination.

xXx... your are most correct ... the styles are simple and direct and with the change in generations the style has become more pronounced and specialized. the skills are getting better and with assistance of computers the graphics are much better. The best example would be the difference in the Steam Boat Willy and Micky f mouse from Disney to Shreck of Dream Works and Pixar...
